The San Juan Diego Corporate Internship Program (CIP) is unlike any other program in Austin and plays an integral role in San Juan Diego Catholic High School (SJDCHS). This distinctive program benefits all participants: the students, the school, and the sponsoring companies. Students offset the cost of their education while gaining valuable professional experience and sponsoring companies lease employees to fill a full-time, entry-level position.
In the Corporate Internship Program, a sponsoring company contracts with the CIP to fill a full-time, entry-level position with a team of students. A job-sharing team is composed of four students, each working five days per month.
All SJDCHS students participate in the CIP, and through their experience, gain exposure to a variety of industries, including law, health care, technology, education, finance, and non-profit organizations. Standard student work duties vary: Entering data, creating presentations, receiving visitors and phone calls, filing, setting up conference rooms, sorting mail, copying, and faxing.
Students work standard business hours, and CIP staff provides students with transportation to and from their workplaces. The program runs annually from August to May.
In addition to placing SJDCHS students in businesses around Austin, SJDCHS trains its students in professional practices.
Along with year-round coaching in professional etiquette, all students are required to attend a summer training institute. During this program, they participate in workshops on various business-related topics, ranging from business etiquette to confidentiality in the workplace.
