Miss Megan Thrutchley has been named the new Varsity Cheerleading Coach at San Juan Diego Catholic High School. During high school, Megan cheered on the varsity squad for three years, placing 2nd at the TAPPS State Championships and receiving First Team, All State Honors. In addition to school cheer, Megan competed on a competitive/club team for two years, finishing 1st at NCA Nationals and worked as a Junior Coach. As an athlete and coach, she has hands-on experience performing and teaching each aspect of cheerleading including tumbling, jumps, crowd interaction, and all stunting positions. Above all, she is eager for the opportunity to facilitate a sense of sisterhood within the squad and watch the girls grow as both athletes and leaders.
Megan is currently a Government and Genocide Studies student at the University of Texas at Austin. In the past, she has interned for the Holocaust Museum of Houston, the HOFT Institute, and UT’s Senate of College Councils. She will spend this summer in Kigali Rwanda, as a research intern for the Genocide Archives of Rwanda. During her time at UT, Megan plans on conducting a long-term study into affective methods of Conflict Resolution, Post Genocide. After graduation, she hopes to implement this research in volatile countries, attend law school, and work in international law.
